Data Transfer at NYU Langone Health: Policies and Processes for Sharing Data In-Person

This class is intended for researchers interested in sharing or obtaining research data, including researchers who need to share data to be compliant with external requirements.The class will explore whether, when, and how to share different types of research data in an appropriate and legal manner.

This class will include discussions of:

  • NYU Langone Health’s data sharing policies

  • Applicable laws, regulations, and sponsor requirements

  • Data Sharing Agreements

  • How to transfer data and make it available to outside parties

  • Anonymized, real-world examples of completed NYU Langone Health data transfers

Sharing research data is essential to research, necessary for collaboration, and often required by sponsors and publishers. Improper data sharing can also violate HIPAA and other laws, breach contract obligations, and compromise academic and intellectual property rights.
